Music is great for the kids

Children who chose the music, have better grades in school, more and more human like animals are - according to a survey of U.S. psychiatrists.
It was found that extracurricular activities impact on the young population, but it was recently discovered that those who attend music lessons, regardless of how many are successful, have better results on tests in elementary school, have at least one pet and show humanity to the elderly and persons in trouble.
On this basis it was concluded that music enriches the soul, which is most pronounced in children who play the piano and violin.

Music education makes kids smarter

Many studies have linked music to improve school results. Even Plato said, "I would teach children music, physics and philosophy, but mostly music because the music and all the arts key learning skills." Here's another good reason to have your child get interested in music.

Good reasons for music lessons

It seems that Plato was right. Here are a few studies that enumerate the positive side of music learning in children.

Swiss survey obuhavatilo 1.200 toddler has shown that playing music help children with reading and verbal skills with their influence on improving concentration, memory and ability to express them.
A study in Hong Kong has shown that adults who have had music lessons before 12 years of age were able to express themselves better than the adults who have had little or had no music lessons.
U.S. research has revealed that children aged 5 to 7 who are falling behind in school performance, reached their peers in reading and surpassed them in math, after seven months of attending music classes.
Listen to music in any age has a direct impact on our internal systems and activates pleasure areas of the brain that produce euphoria.

When the child is ready to play a musical instrument?

Before you go to classes, help your child to develop a love of music and to understand it. Take your child to see live music performance, play his CD's and talk about the instruments you hear.
The best age to start playing the instrument depends on the child, his or her development and planning instrument to learn. We've all seen kids how effortlessly they play Mozart on the violin with 3 or Chopin on the piano at 5 years old.
The best sign that children are ready for music is that he wants to go to formal classes and be able to concentrate during class. The ability to easily distinguish letters and numbers is also a big help when you begin to read music.

Choosing a musical instrument
Vertical or block-flute is a very common first instrument and a good introduction to music-making. It can even be found in stores at very low prices. Children can begin to play the flute length when their fingers are big enough to cover the hole. The recommended age: 5 +
Piano can be played as soon as the child can touch the keyboard and as soon as there is enough power to push the keys. The recommended age: 5 +
String instruments are usually to be found in smaller editions, for example 1/8 smaller than normal size, not intended for young children so that she can begin to play very early. Some children learn the violin at the age of 4. The recommended age: 5 + Violin, 7 + for viola and cello.
Some wind instruments are not recommended for small children playing while not increasing, due to pressure exerted on the teeth, because of the size of the instrument, which forces the mouth is needed and blowing strength needed to make a sound. The recommended age: 8 + (flute, clarinet), 10 + (saxophone, trombone, trumpet).
Guitars are available in smaller sizes and are a great favorite with children in schools. Many teachers are advised to start with an acoustic guitar with nylon strings before moving on to the electric guitar. The recommended age: 7 +
Drums and electric guitars, may be favored in the selection of instruments for "rokerskog" factor. While they look easy to play, they are not! But the fun. The recommended age: 7 +

How do you know if your child is musically gifted?

It is said that every baby is born with a natural instinct to help her recognize her mother's voice. But there are those who say that some children are simply born with musical talent.

These kids are already in a very early age, even 2 years ago, they can react to the music swinging and jumping or repeating melody perfectly. These kids can play the melody and rhythm of the piano, drums, and even recognize when strummed wrong notes.

But if these kids are gifted for music or just have a good disposition for discussion. In any case, if you love music, then we can say that they are gifted.

Finding music teachers

Many teachers offer private music lessons one to one or group lessons in primary school, which is all the information directly or in schools or in small ads. List of contacts music schools in Serbia can be found here: List

Is your child interested in music and a musical instrument?

Why children are concerned?

Children do not have to pay the bills or cook lunch but, just like adults, and they have their daily tasks and obligations that do not go smoothly. If frustrations and disappointments pile up, and children can not take care.

It is natural that children are sometimes worried, and because of differences in personality and temperament, and it is expected that some of them care more than others. Fortunately, parents can help children cope with this feeling of tension and solve everyday problems with ease. Children who learn it, they develop a sense of confidence and optimism that will help them to master life's challenges, be they big or small.

Why children are concerned?

The reasons most often associated with age and stage in which they are located. School children in the prepubertal period usually worry about things like grades, test objectives, changes in their bodies, integrate into society, who missed the goal at a soccer game, or whether they will get into it. Can not care about social issues such as gangs, the pressure of friends or whether they will be a bully, tease or exclude from a group.

Because more and more are beginning to feel belonging to the wider world around them, predpubertetlije can not take care about the events or problems in the world about which they hear in the news or in school.Things such as terrorism, war, pollution, global warming, endangered species, and natural disasters can become a source of everyday thinking.

How to help children overcome what ails them:

Find out what's on their mind

Be available and Engage for what is happening in the school, the team, and with your children's friends. Use sporadic moments to ask what's new. While listening to stories about the events of that day, do not forget to ask what your child thinks and how he feels about what happened.

If it seems that your child is worried about something, ask. Encourage children to describe him what is bothering them. Looking for key details and listen carefully. Sometimes their cargo can facilitate just talking about the event.

Show that you care and that you understand

Showing interest in your child's care shows that this is so important, and helps children gain a sense of support and understanding. Encouraging comments can help - but usually only after hearing the child. Tell the child to understand the feelings and problems.

Remember to hear positive things. Please take some time for the good things that are happening and let the children tell you what they think and how they feel about the successes, achievements and positive experiences.

Solve the problem with the kids, not for them. Taking an active part, children learn how to solve problems independently.

Provide children to come up with a solution

You can help them worry less so you'll help them to constructively deal with situations that cause wear. When your child point to a problem, offer assistance in finding common ground. If your son is worried about the upcoming mission control in mathematics, for example, offer to help him in learning and so will diminish his concern about it.
In most situations, you should refrain from the urge to jump in and solve the problem of your child - instead, think well together and come up with possible solutions.

Offer encouragement and comfort

Sometimes when children are concerned, what they need most is encouragement and comfort to parents. It could be a hug, a comforting word or time spent together. This gesture helps children to know that, whatever happens, parents will be present with love and support.
Sometimes you have to show them how to get rid of some concern instead of whine about it. You have to know when it is time to move on and help the children to "change gears". Show time by importing the bright theme or activity that will create a more relaxed mood.

Show another angle

Children sometimes worry about things that have already happened. Then the parents can offer a view from another angle and change a child's perspective. Maybe your daughter went to the hairdresser and returned home crying unhappy haircut. Let them know that you understand how to shake, then let her know that her hair will grow and help her to figure out a good way to stylized hair in the meantime. If your son is concerned that it will participate in the game, remind him that there would be a lot - if you do not throw this time, there will be other opportunities. Confirm him to know how important it is, and tell him that you - whatever the outcome - proud that he tried and tried my best.

Without depreciation, feelings of the child, point out that many of the problems are temporary and manageable, and that will be good days and other options to try again. Teaching children to keep their problems in perspective can reduce their concerns and helping them to build strength, resilience and optimism to try again. Remind your children that everything will be fine, no matter what happens.

Make a difference

Sometimes children worry about the big things - such as terrorism, war or global warming - about which they hear at school or on the news. Parents can help by talking about these issues, providing accurate information and correcting any wrongdoing child. Try to encourage the children talking about what adults do to solve the problem and protect themselves.

Be aware of your reactions to global events affect the children. If you express your anger and stress of the world events that are beyond your control, the children will probably react the same. But if you show concern by taking a proactive approach to make a positive difference, your children will feel more optimistic and ohrabrenije to do the same. So look for things you can do with your children to make sure that everything you do seems to make a positive change. You might not be able to go and stop the war, for example, but your family can contribute to an organization that works on issues of peace, or to assist children in countries affected by war. Or your family can engage in some charity work to give your children the experience of volunteering.

Be a good role model

The strongest lesson to our children are the ones that show them in person. Your response to their own care can serve as a way to teach their children how to deal with everyday challenges. If you are upset or angry when confronted with too long a list of obligations, your child will learn that this is an appropriate response to stress.

Instead, realize the strengths and you show optimistic thoughts about their own situations at least as much as the amount of talk about what is bothering you. Set a good example to their reactions to problems and obstacles. Optimistic and reliable answers teach your child that the problems are temporary and that tomorrow is a new day. Recovering from problems with a positive attitude will help your children to do the same.

When children do not listen ...

Parents are often faced with a child "no" or "I". Many children do not even pronounce the word, but simply ignore what the parent says. It can be very cute when they were still quite small but can become a problem when rearing small increase.

True, it is positive when children can identify what they want and what is not, and to respond, but "I" can be used to start and when it is not desirable. Here's how parents can respond to rejection or ignoring of the children.

- Be clear and consistent in your expectations. Communicate clearly, get the attention of a child and always, when you talk, watch a child in his eyes.

- Think about how you communicate with your child or partner. If the parents often answer "no" or "I" is very likely to adopt a child and such a mode of communication. Do not expect the child is not what you expect of yourself, because children are always watching us and emulate.

- Try to express their demands in other words. Consider some common phrases that regularly get the answer "I will not." Instead, "We go into the bath, it's time for swimming," try asking, "Would you like to go swimming now or after the cartoons?"

- Be patient. Let your child know that you are on his side. Try not to be rushed and that they often get angry at the refusal.

- Set realistic goals. Children aged four or five years should be established borders, so they feel protected and safe. We also have the right to say "no" if you think that something really can not do. Think about their age and what they are physically, mentally and emotionally capable.

- Have the rules is fine, but do not have them too. Talk with your child and explain the basic rules of behavior at home and in your relationship. Explain the consequences.

- Reward good behavior. It may not be tangible rewards, you can play with your child, read his favorite story or just a hug.

Be positive. Imagine a video camera that follows you all day. If we view the clip, as they counted as positive and negative comments that you have placed your child?

- A child sometimes needs a space for reflection. This is not punishment, simply move away to another room (which feel comfortable) to reflect on his behavior, but only after explaining to him why you are doing. Sometimes you can send yourself to time out.

- Encourage and empower children. Give him a chance to reach its decisions by given a choice whenever possible. Sometimes the pace is too fast for our children, and slow down whenever you can.

- Choose your battles. You can not just impact on every aspect of life of the child, and do not need. In some situations, you simply need to give your child space, such as for example the choice of clothing.

- Always try to avoid situations that will cause problems (where possible), but if you find yourself in this situation, you can also use the method of distraction. Sometimes it is better to focus the child to something other than get into a situation that will cause additional stress for both.

Finally, be patient and consistent with its approach. Remember that your child is a little person who grows and develops in an individual with his attitude. Discipline of course sometimes we have to impose, but it does not mean that we need to completely control the child. In contrast, my kids need to learn how to control himself.

How to discipline someone else's child?

What if you have been entrusted to the care of someone else's child who is very disobedient

We recently received an interesting mail, namely a reader asked us to help her in the following situation: a neighbor with whom a good relationship, no matter what it is that her neighbors mad at her children and her intrusion into the word when you solve problems with children or interfere in her upbringing.

So we've decided to write something on the subject of discipline other people's children. But to begin to answer a reader - you should not allow others to interfere with your education of children, even if it meant that you will offend the person. If it is your real friend will listen to you and appreciate your comments.

Let us return now to the topic - namely, when I was small and badly behaved, the punishment would come from my parents, and when one of my friends, who was visiting with me or in care, being disobedient, and they were subject to "critique" of my parents. These days however the rules disciplining other people's children has changed. Society is increasingly sensitive to the rights and needs of children, and this is definitely positive, but it should be noted that this leads to many confusing situations. What if you have been entrusted to the care of someone else's child who is a tyrant? What you can do to curb this child?

Our view is that it never comes to excessive interference in someone else's education, if you do this to protect the child. The truth is that none of us wants to offend the parents of that child, but when the behavior of the child (which you at that time entrusted to the care of) dangerous and harmful to himself or other children - you can not just ignore it. But exactly how to react - it depends on the circumstances, and you must take into account the reaction of the parents of that child. So what do you do?

First First, agree with the other parents about appropriate behavior and the possible penalties. Every time you're responsible for someone else's child, always meet with parents and talk to them. Exchange information with them about how the reaction in "crisis" situations. Ask them: "Do you have a special rule that we should keep it?", "What is not allowed?", "How do you respond in these situations?" ... Such a child will get a consistent behavior of adults, and you will know how best to respond in case of problem situations.

Second Immediately specify rules. Explain the rules as soon as they arrive to you, and you can even write them down on paper and paste it somewhere that will see them. So children will immediately know that some things "do not pass."

Third Know limits of punishment. Most parents have no problem with it that their children become familiar with the "game rules" in your house or even punish them in case of disobedience. The problem occurs when using an inappropriate sentence. Here are some general rules: You must never beat him or someone else's child is otherwise physically (or mentally) to threaten. You must not judge him ("You're so bad"). You should not he take his personal belongings. And most importantly (and this is related question for our readers) never discipline someone else's child in front of his parents. No matter what that child is doing, the parent is responsible for their child. What you can do is take the child by the hand and lead him to his parents and repeat your "house rules" in front of their parents - "We have said that the ball is not in the house / throwing toys / square flowers ...".

4th Keep your safety is first. Always react in the event of security breaches - aggression (hitting, biting, shoving ...) or risky behavior (climbing on the balcony, running with a sharp object in his hands ...).

5th Appropriate sentence - react the way you have agreed with the parent of the child. In the case of unforeseen and undisputed circumstances - do this: First, give your child understand that what he was doing was wrong. If it does not stop, make a criticism of the behavior, not criticism of him as a person, but the bad behavior. If that does not bear fruit following the threat of punishment, and finally implementing the sentence. Jelena Vrsaljko, TA psychotherapist at the Center Proventus says is appropriate punishment for a child - that, for example, 6 minutes sitting somewhere alone, or to cancel some of his source of pleasure, such as watching television or playing computer games, or (one day). And another important note, never punish denial of basic needs such as "Today there is no supper for you."

The penalty shall be eligible to be realistic and that can be done. If you threaten your child with something that we can execute, we have achieved nothing, except that our child does not believe that the future threat of punishment will not be effective. And it's very important to be consistent with the implementation of the sentence. Which means that we will subsequently negotiate the length of the sentence, "pardon" and so on.Since parents are often angry at sentencing, it happens to come up too quickly and that the penalty for themselves after a wave of anger that they think is too harsh. So much the better "impose" a more lenient sentence, but very strict and was later relaxed.

6th What if nothing helps? In this case, call parents and explain the situation and ask them for advice if you or talk with a parent does not help - then in consultation with the parents take the child home problematic.

The nature of the child to examine the limits of adults. This is normal. And each child has a bad day sometimes. What is most important in a situation of disciplining other people's children to communicate with the parents of that child to child has consistent rules and thus faster and better to learn socially acceptable behavior and develop social intelligence.

How to recognize sunstroke in children?

How to recognize a sunstroke in children?

Sunstroke can occur quickly, especially if the child is active in the sun, but more often called late sunstroke, which takes place several hours after their stay in the heat - at bedtime or during the first sleep.

One of the most serious problems that can cause the sun is, of course, sunstroke or heat stroke, a severe reaction to the whole body of excessive sun exposure. It can happen quickly, especially if the child is active in the sun, but more often called late sunstroke, which takes place several hours after their stay in the heat - at bedtime or during the first sleep.

Early reaction was very agitated: a child suddenly infirm, felt dizzy and nauseous, often vomit and became drowsy. The larger kids may be upset and headache is almost always present. The child was dewy with sweat, his hands and feet are warm first, and if not removed from the sun, become cold and shivering. Body temperature may be normal, but it is usually elevated. As a child, and the symptoms are less pronounced, a higher risk of complications. When you are just overdone the sun, can lead to loss of consciousness, which often occurs in adolescents.

When it occurs "late" sunstroke symptoms appear slower, less pronounced, but last longer. Children are hot, flushed, although not in the sun. They look as if they were "breaking virus", so the moms and dads often get confused thinking it's the infection. The children are very irritable - crying, seemingly without reason, a larger children usually have nausea (sometimes vomiting), changing the mood and have insomnia.Body temperature is usually elevated.

What in the case of sunstroke can parents do?

-Remove the child from the sun: If it is early and the turbulent sunglasses, a child must first remove it from the sun, if it is possible to go in air conditioned room, or at least in the dark, well-ventilated room or apartment.
-Take a shower the child with lukewarm water: Then let it dry without wiping
-Give him to drink fluids. Chilled non-alcoholic beverage (tea, juice or plain water) is in dire need of a child who has sunstroke. The liquid should not be given at once in large amounts, but more often by smaller, especially if the child is returned. Even as the first drink "portion" of water should be undressed and refrigerate.
-Give him a remedy: If the body temperature remains high, children should be given some medication to bring down the temperature (antipyretic). It is best to put a suppository (paracetamol) in the butt, because the effect is faster and avoids the possibility of vomiting. Of course it is wrong to give any medication in syrup (ibuprofen or paracetamol).
-He needs a home: The next few hours the child should rest, ideally, to sleep. Some parents are afraid to let the little ones to sleep when you have sunstroke. This fear is unjustified, because he really needed a vacation, a dream vacation is the best. Of course, during sleep, body temperature should be controlled, even in the case of new drug therapy to repeat rebounds against high temperatures. After four hours of previous dose can be repeated drug. And if less time has passed, repeat the shower with lukewarm water.

When to contact a physician?

-If the body temperature falls, despite the cooling and drugs. And probably not just sunglasses, but the child at the beginning of another disease. Usually it is the beginning of intestinal infection, or inflammation of the respiratory organs. In this case, quickly appeared, and other symptoms, so you should consult your doctor and ask the right diagnosis.
-If a child loses consciousness and does not recover quickly after placement in the supine position. Loss of consciousness is usually the result of transient hypotension and a lack of blood flow to the brain. This is a harmless variant and almost immediately passes the child lie down and raise his legs, in order to provide enough blood to the brain. However, if the child is then confused, drowsy and poorly interacts with the environment should occur a doctor, preferably a pediatrician.
-If persistent vomiting and all the weaker. Then it is a very serious form of sunstroke and needed medical inspection. He will determine if it is only a sunstroke, or potkrao beginning of another disease (eg summer infection by viruses or bacteria).

What if a child does not stop cursing?

There is hardly a child at least at some point is not cursed, but some children do much more than others.Children, sometimes, know to be very persistent with curses, the crazy parents who could not manage to unlearn old child, and nasty habits.

Children from two, three, four, when they curse, in principle, to make no real understanding of what it is saying, but they like the reaction of adults to hear - they are sometimes allowed, sometimes angry, but rarely seriously angry , the principle of "know what this little child what is blasphemy." Indeed, I did not know, and swearing often pass spontaneously, when the child bored. However, in some later age (seven years, for example), but the child better understand the meaning of cursing and swearing, but then it is a sign of aggression.

Sometimes parents are hoping that the child, if you enroll in multiple sports, and so ensure that he spends the accumulated energy, be less prone to swearing. It is often the case - the child is in training "empty" and then be relatively calm. However, sometimes, it continues to curse and that spanking does not help either - just infuriate him even more.

In such cases, the manifestation of aggression against a child, parents will not help. The child is obviously bothered by something, otherwise they would not have acted. Make no mistake, we do not claim that the child should just let it run all you want, but in this case, you might prefer to wait for it to be in good spirits, and then with him gently and with lots of love to talk and try to find out what is it that bothers him, because it is so aggressive towards you. Maybe he misses your attention, and not in other ways that attract? It is possible that there is a problem that does not know how to solve, and knows how to tell you about it?

Once you solve the problem that causes the aggression of the child, you should stop swearing. If necessary, do not be ashamed to seek help of a therapist (a psychologist who deals with children and their problems) - it does not make you a bad or unfit mother, but on the contrary, a mother who is in every possible way tries to help his child.

What if your child starts to curse?

You'll be quite surprised when one day your well-behaved child utters the first bad word. Cursing was heard somewhere in the street, and was accepted as a way of speaking adults. And while a lot of confidence carries you (lest I learned a new term from the adult world), you simply dumbfounded. I do not know what to do?

First, do not go beyond that and to pretend that you have not heard anything. "Bad language" is often used in order to draw attention to themselves, or as an attempt to test your reaction. Do not react to the children's laughter, cursing, so no matter how you look.

Ask your child if he knew what the word means, most do not know. On his way to understand and explain the meaning of the word consult him: such words are not welcome in your home.

Some parents still practice the old fashioned way of "healing" from "dirty" language - and a quick pat on the child's lips. If you are a supporter of this method, then to run with a hug and a kiss.

Introduce fines, according to the system "one bad word one dinar." This is possible only in a slightly later age when the child already has its own pocket.

You can let them free to use words that only the elect, but he is suggested to be pronounced in a place that is appropriate to do so - in the bathroom. You'll see how quickly give up their original intentions. It's not so fun "shock" himself, in such a dull place.
